MANY RAVENS

(to see a larger image, click picture)

When Daje goes seeking his Beacon Boy father, he finds way more than he expects.?

According to his Mum, Daje is a Beacon Boy with manners and such, and not the lower White City, Helve boy he has lived all his life. His Pa, after all, was a Beacon Boy and Beacon Boys just don't!

When the city gangs close in on him and his mother is killed by the drugs one of his former best friends dealt her, Daje leaves his home city following a song about Beacon Boys, seeking his Beacon Boy Pa—not really expecting to find him, not even sure he wants to. But then he has a few things to say to the ragabash that left his new wife and not-born-yet son to fend for themselves.

The song leads him eventually to Retrieve, Gallimaufry and the composer, who says,: calling yourself a Beacon Boy is dangerous, but come home with me and see if you can convince them you are one of them.

When Daje finds Beacon, he finds far, far more than he expects—about Beacon and about himself.—turning his life around and around and around...

His Mum says:

Beacon Boys are responsible.

Beacon Boys don't believe in nonsense.

Beacon Boys have manners.

The song says:

Beacon Boys, wild as can be

You find them in a closet,

You find them in a tree

They are dapper and ragtag

and irreverent as can be

They'll kiss you and leave you
and then back they will be...
